Dear All,

This is my introductory post on animal abuse/cruelty. Most of the  animal kingdom..... (I say most, because I'm excluding those that are perpetrators of such acts)..... would be eternally grateful if you could  support this venture of highlighting this heart crushing issue to the world, by continuing to read and comment on the topics posted.

 I have emphasized on some extremely interesting topics on animal abuse.

Please note that these posts contain some graphic images, therefore, you may have to view with some discretion. 

If you are interested in a topic, please feel free to let me know. I will try my best to address your concerns.

Today I will start by portraying a few pictures  that strengthened my desire to help stop animal abuse. I hope it will have the same impact, if not a greater one, on you.

THE ILLEGAL BUSH MEAT TRADE
Bush Meat was originally defined as the hunting and killing of all types of wild animals in West and Central Africa, Asia and the humid tropics of the Americas.
The meat trade is an illegal activity that takes place on a daily basis. Wildlife is indiscriminately hunted for criminal profits, irrespective of whether they are endangered or not.

The consumption of illegal bush meat is remarkably dangerous, with viruses such as Ebola and AIDS rife. However, even these risks do not prevent the brutal murder of endangered species.

The Bush Meat trade is sickeningly brutal and cruel. I for one am disgusted that this still goes on in today's society. It must be stopped!

Illegal Dog Meat Trade in Asia

The illegal dog meat trade is the ultimate betrayal of mans best friend! Southeast Asia's illegal dog meat trade is on the rise. It is a multi-million dollar industry run by criminals of the worst kind.
In Thailand crime lords arrange the capture of at least 30 000 stray dogs every month for exportation into Vietnam, via Laos and the illegal river borders, where the taste for bush meat, particularly dog meat, runs high.
Thai society frowns upon this activity, however, killing dogs, no matter how brutally, carries no legal penalty.
Wild dogs are corralled and forced into wire cages for export to Vietnam. They are graded by size as different sized dogs are worth different amounts. How they can look at a defenceless animal in this way is beyond me!

Animal Abuse-Please stop it !

Animal experimentation for household products and cosmetic companies include forcing animals to inhale chemical fumes, ingest their ingredients and rub them into their shaved scalps, eyes, limbs and raw skin. The effects can be devastating:

Some animal rights groups take matters into their own hands and break into research labs to free the animals, so they don't have to suffer from animal experimentation anymore.

In 2004 someone freed 47 animals from the laboratory and dog kennels at W.B Saul High School, Philadelphia, USA:

Animal Abuse- Facts About Animal Cruelty

Very interesting facts about animal abuse.

 

 

1. Puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations that put greater priority on profits than the health of the puppies. Many dogs are plagued with illnesses like kidney or heart disease as a result of the conditions they’re kept in.
 

2. Each year, thousands of young and healthy Greyhounds are killed because they lack racing potential or have been injured while racing and are no longer competitive.

 

3. Due to genetic manipulation, 90% of broiler chickens (chicken bred specifically for meat production) have trouble walking.

 

4.  Dogfighting became prevalent in the US after the Civil War, with professional pits proliferating in the 1860s. And was a source of entertainment for police officers and firemen.

 

5.  Today dogfighting has been reported in urban, suburban, and rural settings in all regions of the world.           

 

6.  More than 50% the fur in the United States comes from China, where there are no penalties for abusing animals, which are raised in unbearably cramped and run-down cages on fur farms.

 

7. It’s been estimated that there are 900 to 2,000 new cases every year of animal hoarding in the US, with 250,000 animals falling victim.

 

8. Over 100 million animals – mice, rats, dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, birds, among others – are killed in US laboratories for chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing every year.

 

9.  Every major circus that uses animals has been cited for violating the minimal standards of care set by the United States Animal Welfare (AWA).

 

10. Most rodeo events rely on creating a stressful environment for the domesticated and often docile animals involved. Participants rely on harsh handling practices (i.e. twisting calves’ tails or painful electric shocks) to make animals perform.

 

11. The exotic pet trade is a multi-billion dollar industry and while some wild pets are bred in captivity, many are taken from their native habitats. The stress of being violently removed from their homes causes a number to die prematurely.

Animal Abuse- Innocent and Helpless!!

Heartless and Barbaric!!

 

I came across this old video from a couple of years ago that recaptured my attention. I cannot understand how someone can carry out such unexplainable ,senseless acts on these innocent, helpless creatures.

 

 

 

Man used to hunt and kill for food, for survival... like an animal, nothing more... but, somewhere down the road, as we 'progressed'..................yeh right, things changed. We abuse our power, and kill, murder, plunder... excessively, for money, greed, vanity. We no longer care or give a damn about life. We do not hesitate even for a split second when we rob another being's right to live. We have lost our basic sense of decency and reason. We are the worse form of life on this planet.

Every year, THOUSANDS of sealers or seal hunters go on a killing spree, wiping out entire colonies of seals, adult, young, babies... blatantly ignoring authorities' ban and animal lovers' protests... while their governments just sit and watch.... as these poor creatures are being 'harvested' like crops...

There is blood on the ice. Clubbed to near death, suffering and in pain, fully conscious and aware of their impending fate... they wait for their turn, to be cut open, to be skinned alive, to die. With tears of blood, they watch as their kind are being 'finished off', one by one.

The line is drawn. The difference is clear. There is no grey area. Which side are you on? Will you just turn away, and let these murder go on, year after year, after year? Or will you take a stand, and do what you can? Every second we spent waiting, thinking, wondering, is another seal dying....

Now... What will you do?

Fauna -A Real  Fighter

Please have a read on Fauna's dilemma. It's amazing how heartless we can be.

Earlier this week we told you about a severely starved dog found in a garbage can in New Stanton, Pennsylvania.  We’re happy to tell you that she’s slowly recovering, and that her former owner has been located and is charged with animal cruelty.
Nathan Binnie was on his rounds as a trash collector when he came to a can that he didn’t immediately heave into the truck.  Inside was a skeletal shepherd mix.
“It was just one of those cans I didn’t pick up and just throw in my truck,” he said. “You could see every bone. [The dog was] shivering and shaking. It was just horrific.”
He fed her his lunch as he waited for authorities to pick her up and take her to a shelter.  She was brought to the Humane Society of Westmoreland County.  The 10-month-old dog was in such bad shape, vets couldn’t even draw blood to start a full work up on her.
The dog’s name used to be Mia, but the HSWC has been calling her Fauna since she was taken in.  A petition was created calling for charges to be brought against her former owner, who was reported to have moved to Texas on October 27^th.
Thankfully, Fauna was micro chipped and owner Nikki Baker was tracked down.  She is facing charges of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct.  She admitted to leaving her intentionally starved dog in the garbage can so she could go to Texas to be with her boyfriend.  She is now in the Greensburg, PA area, staying with a friend.
Investigators searched through Baker’s phone and read conversations she had with her friends after Fauna’s story went public.
“By reading through the messages and things of that nature, she had intentionally misled people that were offering to help when it came to taking care of Mia, the dog,” said Trooper Stephen Limani.  “She acknowledged the fact that at some point in time, she realized what she was doing, she fully knew it was wrong, and still she put a dog, her dog, in a garbage can.”
 


The woman’s daughter, Brittany Prinkey, lives next door to the trailer where her mother had been starving the dog, and has been being harassed about what happened
“People have been throwing stuff at my house, at my car, threatening me, telling me I should die. I should be put in a trash bag and left to suffocate without food and water,” Prinkey explained.  “I never thought my mom would be able to do something like that. It’s my mom. I never thought she would do something like that.”
Prinkey is not a suspect, and investigators confirm that Baker acted alone.  The mother and daughter are estranged, and Prinkey says the last time she had seen the dog in July, she was healthy.
“I’m super upset with her. I just don’t understand how someone could do that,” Prinkey said.  “I didn’t have any involvement with what my mom did. I didn’t even know I was on the application. I was informed later that I was down as a second contact – I wasn’t an owner.”
Baker listed her as a contact when she adopted the dog in April.  Prinkey found out what happened to poor Fauna when she was called at work on Thursday.
“I was so upset, I felt like I was going to throw up. I was so sick to my stomach about everything,” she said.  “I couldn’t believe it. That garbage can is right over there. I didn’t hear anything. No one heard anything. No one knew. It’s disgusting.”
Meanwhile, humane agent Janet Dillion says Fauna has gained eight pounds so far, and has received sweaters, toys, and treats donated from Burton’s Pet Store.  Hundreds have already inquired about adopting her, and when she is healthy enough, she will go to the home that’s best for her.

Fur Farming:..... ANIMALS SKINNED ALIVE!

Tears are literally streaming form my eyes while posting this.

The fur farming industry is horrifically cruel. Animals are skinned alive fully conscious for their fur, after being beaten and having their bones broken. They survive after being skinned for up to ten minutes in unimaginable agony.
They live their lives crushed in to tiny cages, being driven mad. The animals receive no veterinary attention and are just left to suffer. A worker was quoted as saying "There is nothing wrong with treating the animals this way. They are going to die anyway."

This is a huge industry where millions upon millions of innocent animals are regularly meeting this fate, prevalently in Asian countries, such as China and the Philippines.

This raccoon dog was skinned alive and thrown on to a pile of many others that had just been forced to endure the same agony. Many of the animals were still alive and in unimaginable pain. In this video still, this raccoon dog managed to lift it's head up and look at the person doing the under cover filming, as if to plead with them to stop it's agony.

WARNING: Real Fur Labelled As Faux Fur
Most people have a conscience and so would never dream of wearing real fur. Imitation, or faux fur has been available for a long time as an alternative. However, worryingly, it has been found that real fur is being sold all over the world labelled as faux fur.

Obviously fur coats are only for the most heartless, unfeeling of people that are full of ugliness. Fur coats require numerous innocent animals to be put through the appalling fur farming process just for one of these cruellest of coats to be made.

There are a lot of coats and jackets for males and females, with fur trims on the hoods, collars or cuffs, etc. There are also furry boots, gloves with fur trims, furry hats and many other garments.

Even certain toys and ornamental animals are made with real fur, when you may not expect them to be.

Animal Abuse-Once again for you to live!

Vivisection Testing - What Really Happens......
It is reported that over 100 million animals each year suffer and are murdered at the hands of:

 

1. Cosmetic, Chemical, Drug and Food Companies
2. Medical Research Laboratories
3. University Laboratories
4. Medical Training Exercises

Just to name but a few. They suffer unimaginable psychological and physical suffering. Albino Rabbits, and Dogs, for example, are often used for the Draize acute toxicity test.

This is where a substance such as a cosmetic or food ingredient is dropped into the eye or on the skin of a restrained, conscious animal, left for a while then removed to record its effects.

Effects can range from redness and swelling, to haemorrhaging and blindness. The animals are killed if they do not recover, otherwise they are tested on again. The pain they experience can only be imagined.

ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION !

Animal Experimentation IS NOT REQUIRED to advance human medical science in modern society. Because humans respond so differently to other animals, using other animals to test on is unreliable at best, and fatally dangerous at worst, for humans.

Cruel beyond words, the torturing and sacrificing of animals is what goes on in hidden laboratories in Research Facilities every day.

Vivisection means the cutting up of a living animal. However animals are dissected, infected with diseases, burned and blinded to name but a few of the atrocities that are inflicted on these poor defenceless animals.

Vivisection hinders medical advancement and is risky for humans because the results of this sadistic research cannot be applied to animals.

What the Scientists also fail to tell you is that advances such as curing cancer in mice has been in place for years, but cannot be transferred to humans.

All that time wasted, and cruelty inflicted, and absolutely no progress made in treating and curing cancer in humans.

The Lethal Dose 50 Percent (LD50) test. 
The Lethal Dose 50 Percent (LD50) test is where Rabbits, Dogs, Cats, Mice and Guinea Pigs are used to test lipsticks, skin-care products, shampoos and nail polish.

Ingredients equating 50% of the animals body weight is forced into the animal orally or intravenously. The aim is to find the dose which kills half the animal sample, which is a minimum of 50 animals per experiment.

The multitude of tests that are conducted on animals is truly sickening. Monkeys are documented to have lost fingers and limbs through testing, and even through the lack of care they receive after testing.

For example, bandages are not applied to the burned body of the animal after chemical testing. This leads to infection and disease, not to mention the pain and distress they suffer.

Just imagine they kill me to test the food I have to eat!!!

The testing of cosmetics, household cleaners, and surprisingly, dog food, results in millions of animals suffering and dying from poisoning and burning every year, at the demand of cruel corporations. These corporations are the owners of leading, well known brands consumers buy.

A Better Way - Humane Research
The frustrating thing for me is animal experimentation can so easily be avoided and replaced with advanced humane, non-animal methods.

The belief that animal experimentation is necessary to progress medical research is wrong. In fact, what produces positive results in animals, can prove to be very dangerous to humans.

Time and money should be poured into the following techniques: In Vitro Research
This is where research is conducted in external, controlled environments such as a test tube. It is a proven technique that produces very accurate results for medical research.

Penicillin is just one of thousands of treatments for humans that were discovered through In vitro research. Why experiment on an animals when this works better?

In addition drugs like Thalidomide, Zomax, and DES were all tested on animals and judged safe. We know now this was very much not the case.

Advances In Technology The technology available to research scientists, chemists and others from the medical and commercial worlds really does negate the need for animal experimentation.

MRI and CAT Scans, DNA Sequencing, Advanced Microscopes and X-rays all enable the medical world to look inside the human body.

Advances in Computers New computer power and advances in Mathematics have resulted in new treatments for diseases such as Breast cancer and AIDS.

New prosthetics for people who have lost limbs, or who have broken their backs and also on the market today. No animal experimentation needed!

Epidemiology Epidemiology studies diseases in the human body. This techniques discovered links between diet and heart disease, and smoking and lung cancer.

Genetics Genetic research identified human predisposition to hereditary problems such as cancer and heart disease. Advances in DNA technology may lead to cures for such conditions.

The scientists that use DNA sequencing in animal experimentation are really wasting their time. Why not study humans instead?

Clinical Studies Clinical Studies observe and analyse patient conditions to advance solutions to given problems. Leukaemia, thyroid disease and HIV therapies have all come from Clinical studies.

Autopsies Autopsies identify and clarify human diseases with absolute clarity. They are expensive, but the research information that can be found from them are worth the investment.

I am pleased to say that some Countries in Europe have diverted funds from animal experimentation to autopsies with positive results.

Post-Marketing Drug Surveillance (PDMS)This is a system that enables the general public to report on the effects and side effects of approved drugs. This enables the research labs to refine the safety of such drugs.

Finally, the lorry stops. You hope you will be given a drink, but instead you and your friends are forced in to a building. The unfamiliar and disturbing sights and smells terrify you and your friends.

You are all trapped. You are forced forward by someone poking you with a stick that gives you horrible electric shocks. You panic as you see a person hold a bolt gun to your friends head. In horror you see you friend fall.

Now it is your turn. You have never felt such terror. The stun gun fires a bolt into your head, causing you extreme agony... but you are still conscious. The workers don't care as they hoist you upside down for your throat to be cut...

It could be said that the ones that are stunned effectively are the lucky ones in the slaughter house, considering around 40% are not and feel every moment of the agonising torture.

Live Export conditions are horrific. As in all areas of farming and the meat industry, animals are seen as commodities, or money, rather than living, breathing fellow animals.

The abuse continues every day. Even in Countries such as the USA and the UK, Companies break laws all the time with regards to how animals should be treated.

Animals slaughtered to provide Halal meat is also done without stunning. Muslims believe that as long as the knife is sharp and the slaughter can be done in one go, it is the kindest way and acceptable. I wonder if they would think the same if they themselves were faced with this death?
